KABAR ALAM – Alhamdulillah, good news, for the first time, in the end of 2022, an orangutan was caught on a camera trap installed in the Pararawen Nature Reserve (NR).
Previously - throughout the activities carried out by the Central Kalimantan BKSDA in this area - there had never been any indication of the presence of orangutans in Pararawen NR.
In fact, as quoted from the @bksda_kalteng Instagram account, the Decree on the designation of the area does not even mention orangutans as one of the area's important values.

"Information about the presence of orangutans in this area is only based on reports from the community that conveyed their encounters with orangutans in the area, namely in 2020 and 2021," the account wrote.
Based on his report, the camera traps were installed in 2021. However, this effort did not produce any recorded orangutans until the end of last year, which also serves as legitimacy for the presence of orangutans in Pararawen NR.
In the video footage, an adult orangutan, thought to be female, is seen walking on the ground.
"Our hope is that the orangutan population in Pararawen NR can be maintained and able to carry out the functions of the ecosystem in it," wrote the account. ***
