Welcoming the New Year 2023, Javan Loris Wirya, Mikail, Katty, Rayla Live a New Life at Kamojang Crater TWA

KABAR ALAM – Welcoming the New Year 2023 , the West Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA) released four individual Javan slow lorises at the Kamojang Crater TWA, December 27, 2022.

The four released Javan slow lorises consist of 2 adult males named Wirya aged 3 years and Mikail aged 2 years.

Two other individuals are adult females named Katty aged 3 years and Rayla aged 4 years.

The four came from the handover of Kalapa Dua village residents, Mekar Sari Village, Cilawu District, residents of Cimaragas Cilauk, and residents of Karangpawitan Garut to the West Java BBKSDA and then entrusted them to the Cikembulan Animal Park.

"The aim of this release is to return animals to their natural habitat and maintain their populations in nature so that the balance of the ecosystem is maintained," wrote the Instagram account @bbksda_jabar, on Wednesday 28 December 2022.

The four slow lorises have been undergoing rehabilitation for 5 months at the Cikembulan Animal Park.

After having their health checked by a veterinarian at the Cikembulan Animal Park and declared healthy (very wild and in complete dental condition), it was recommended that the four of them be released in order to breed and maintain their populations.

West Java BBKSDA head Irawan Asaad said the release was a collaboration between the West Java BBKSDA, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy, Cikembulan Animal Park and the community.

"The release of 4 individual Javan slow lorises which are protected animals as a wildlife conservation effort absolutely needs to be carried out. This moment also shows that people's awareness of the importance of conservation is also increasing and getting better," said Irawan Asaad.

The Kamojang Crater TWA as the release site is located in Sukakarya Village, Samarang District, Garut Regency, West Java.***
